Reliable two-way radio communications are essential for the public safety departments serving our communities.  The METCAD radio  system is a mission critical tool used to assign responders to calls for help from the public, and it is used by the responders to coordinate their operations as they deliver service to the public. The radio system is in use constantly, and is relied upon to function when other communications systems fail.

Migration to the MIDCE system began August 21, 2007 and will continue for the next several months.  The  MDICE network is an ASTRO 25, IP-based, 800 Mhz, Trunked, Digital, Simulcast system.  The new system will be capable of supporting all of the public safety agencies in the county and has enough capacity to also support more public service agencies in the future.  It will provide improved performance compared with the old system, and is compatible with state and federal emergency communications systems for greatly improved interoperability during emergency events.

For more information about the technology of the new system, please visit this Motorola web site
